RAC moves office to Media City – creating the need for 300 more homes

Breakdown giant, RAC, has announced its plans to relocate 300 of their employees to a new office site in Media City, according to Insider Media, in what is being named “one of the largest lettings deals in Greater Manchester this year”.

According to Insider Media, Breakdown service and insurance giant RAC have committed to relocating 300 employees to a new office in Media City, taking the 23,000 sq. ft space within The Vic – bringing its Mancunian call centre facility to the entire second floor and part of the first floor of the Peel L&P building and away from their current location in Stretford.

The Vic has recently undergone significant refurbishment in the last three years and is officially qualified as Net Zero carbon by third-party analysis.

"We're very excited by our move to Salford Quays and MediaCity as it demonstrates our continued long-term investment in the RAC, our colleagues and Manchester. The Vic’s best-in-class sustainability and well-being credentials offer colleagues a better working environment, first-class facilities and an all-round greater experience in a modern and vibrant city setting. RAC colleagues will also be able to benefit from excellent transport links, parking, a host of shops on the doorstep, and plenty of eateries and bars for after-work socialising.” Dave Hobday, Chief Executive at RAC.

RAC’s relocation to the Media City office has also coincided with another tenant in The Vic signing a commitment to a further five years within their 6,000 sq. ft ground floor space within the building, as well as the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) having signed a ten-year deal for a 9,000 sq. ft space within the neighbouring Alex building.

With the significant influx of businesses moving to the Media City and Salford Quays area over the last decade, the local residential market has continued to struggle to keep up with demand.

As more and more businesses move their operations into the Media City and Salford Quays area – and MediaCityUK’s second phase continues construction with the expectation to finish creating a space to live, work, study, and play in the city over the next decade – the local residential market is continuing to struggle to accommodate the volume of residents looking to move into the area and subsequently creating a market that is experiencing a severe undersupply of available properties and an oversaturation of tenant demand.

At Beech Holdings we have always maintained at the forefront of innovation, which is how we were able to identify Salford Quays as a place for significant residential development over five years ago when we first purchased the site that would become one of our most popular developments, Brookland House.

At the same time, we purchased the site across the street from what would become Brookland House, right next to the Langworthy tram stop, in a fantastic location that experiences high tenant demand all year round.

Due to the successes of our Brookland House development, we have begun the next phase of development in that area and created a brand-new residential offering that is set to revolutionise the UK rental market – City Co-Living.

A branded approach to city living, City Co-Living MediaCity will be the second building as part of our City Co-Living brand that will welcome residents, following the successes of our first building, City Co-Living Newcastle.

With a wide range of on-site amenities and a social calendar for residents that is included in their rent, City Co-Living MediaCity invites residents to live in their own fully equipped apartments with their own kitchen, bathroom, and living spaces, while also enjoying the ability to use the on-site amenities as an extension of their own home – whenever they like.
